OpenGL wouldn’t start for Quake 3, 2D was terribly sluggish in windows, video was low-resolution and low-color and looked horrible. Of course, being an older chip, it doesn’t even have full Direct X 7 hardware support it lacks of hardware TL and Direct X 8 is completely out of the picture. If you remember that the quality of the bit color of the KYRO is excellent, you can make the conclusion yourself. Minimum framerates dip lower on the Kyro-based cards, but the maximum framerates are also higher than the others. The GPU is equipped with a roundish cooler with an effective fan.

Surprisingly enough, in 3D Markthe Kyro 1 and 2 aren’t very far apart. In the box you can find: It is similar to the Blue Orb from ThermalTake, but the heat sink has a completely different configuration.
That’s because video cards are propphet to play games The concept of the KYRO combines simplicity of the cards, cheap SDR memory, and at the same time, quite high speed results as compared with their competitors, and strong diversity of the performance in different games.
Test results The 2D quality is just excellent. Here the results are somewhat different. But this technology is just earlier and, therefore, slower in a realization frequency.
If you remember that the quality of the bit color of the KYRO is excellent, you can make the conclusion yourself. That is why the memory has prolhet good overclocking potential, but it is, unfortunately, limited by the chip’s speed. The activation of the S3TC hasn’t helped here. Strong performance fall when the trilinear and anisotropic filtering are enabled; Lack of anisotropic filtering in the OpenGL; Low quality of the anisotropy in the Direct3D.
The Kyro 1 is essentially the same as the Kyro 2, so you can always see that review for more specific details on the technology behind the silicon.
On the whole, the KYRO products are rather good. BioShock Infinite and Metro: It’s not at the FPS of higher end models, but then if your eye can distinguish between games at and 60 FPS you should be too busy working at the circus to care about gaming.
Overall I was quite surprised with the way the card performed. Video 3Digests Video cards: It provides the space for a TV-out chip. On the one hand, it is pleasant that the debugging process is so fast, but, on the other hand, how dare they release products with raw software? Obviously done for the sake of cooling, not like it’s there to make toast.
But the KYRO deserves attention not only due to a low price for its cards, but also due to a series of interesting technologies which allow them to lift the performance in the 3D much more than just by fps.
Prophrt shows card’s work in bit color and High Quality shows card’s work in bit color. In the May 3Digest you can find a full comparison of characteristics of cards of this and other classes.
In our 3Digest in the S3TC part I am studying 400xt issue in detail, that is why I recommend you to read this material, where you can also look at the screenshots and make sure that the activation of the texture compression worsens the quality of the KYRO to the least extent among all 3D chips. Then on to our Giants test which involves a quick run through the multiplayer level “Three Way Island 1” from the Meccs team to catch the minimum and maximum framerates encountered. These tests were run before the newer October 15 official drivers prpohet released.
The card ships in a dark Retail-package with a picture of a soldier or a magician. User Manual; CD with drivers and utilities. Of course, being an older chip, it doesn’t even have full Direct X 7 hardware support it lacks of hardware TL and Direct X 8 is completely out of the picture.
Why do the drivers pass a debugging process only for several popular games?
That’s because these are budget cards we’re talking about. The KYRO based cards cost today even less than the GeForce2 MX, that is why the only obstacle in the way of popularization of these cards is a small number of companies which are producing them. Quake 3 tells the same story: And we shouldn’t ignore video cards on this chipset, first of all, due to their low price. I just don’t recommend to enable the texture compression on the games based on the UnrealTournament engine.
